This picturesque
village of Craster, famous for its kippers, developed around
a natural haven and prospered fom local fishing and transportation
of stone from the local quarry. Crabs,
lobsters and salmon are landed from the local fishing boats
which also offer trips to sea anglers.

harbour there is a spectacular coastal walk to the 14th
Century ruins of Dunstanburgh Castle. Within the village
there is
a pub, seafood restaurant and tourist information
centre.
For those
who like to venture a little further afield, the surrounding
countryside offers delightful market towns and villages,
beautiful sandy beaches, many ancient castles and churches.
For birdwatchers there are nature reserves at Newton-by-the-Sea,
Budle Bay, The Farne Islands and Holy Island (Lindisfarne).
Nearby
there are opportunities for horse riding, sea, coastal
and river fishing as well as several challenging golf courses
such as Dunstanburgh and Bamburgh. There are abundant opportunities
